What is a public cloud? A virtual public cloud lets all businesses access their data through the Internet without taking up space. Companies don't have to waste office space or money finding places to store their information. Public clouds give enterprises places for information without having to invest in their own private clouds. Companies are able to pay for only the needed space and can rent more if needed. Public clouds have firewalls to protect company information from hackers and other outside sources. Here is a video on public clouds

Cloud computing seems like one of the greatest inventions for business applications. The ability to only pay for the space you use is a real cost cutter. Companies such as Amazon that have a private cloud system sell parts of there storage that they do not use to other companies such as Netflix. So either owning your own, or utilizing someone else cloud, you can potential save your business a lot of money.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you that cloud computing in general saves money. With public cloud computing companies still must be careful with error of the main server provider or if the system all together goes down
DeleteI agree with Jonny. Cloud's are an innovative and exciting aspect of business today. Have you heard of the IBM Liquid Challenge?
ReplyDeleteI know someone who helped to develop the idea and test it out. They had amazing results and it really inspired a gathering of programmers. I wonder if this will be the direction that more companies take as a subset to "outsourcing" - since it seems to be a version?

Google has a similar feature that let's you develop your own infrastructures using their technology. I would not be surprised if more companies began to do this.
DeleteI personally disagree with all three of you. I find cloud computing to be an easy escape for many companies who will eventually face serious repercussions. Cyber crime is at an all time high, and their abilities to hack past firewalls are nothing short of scary. With cloud computing on the up and up, more and more information is being stored into cyber space. All of this information, which mind you, includes personal details about you as well as credit card information, banking account numbers and more; all of this information is more accessible simply because it is out there. What used to be filed safely in your own, personal filing cabinet protected in your own home is now potentially in the reach of a cyber criminal. I just think we are all getting ahead of ourselves and not seriously looking into the consequences.
ReplyDeleteI feel like the risk of losing all information or the risk of hackers obtaining that information with harmful intentions would out way the costs of finding storage to put said documents. Like Tyler said, Cyber crime is at an all time high and these criminals are getting better and better by the second being able to access very important information that wouldn't otherwise be accessible to them if it was in paper and not on some cloud network.
